Niklaus H. Koenig, Dipl. El.-Ing. ETH/STV, is the Director and CEO of SRE GmbH in Zrich as well as founder and director of the SwissRapide Express project.
Niklaus H. Koenig studied Arts at Mount Royal College in Calgary, electrical engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and completed his Masters in Science (in Electronic Engineering) at the Swiss Federal Technical University in Zürich.
He has worked for various organisations including Sony, Philips and the Swiss Federal Ministry of Transport, where he was responsible for railway signalling, traffic management and telecommunication systems.
In 1997, he joined the Swiss Federal Railways SBB in Zürich as Head of the Signalling Department. In 1999 he founded the European Euro-Interlocking Project under the auspices of the UIC and the European railways, which he led successfully until 2005.
In March 2006, he took over the position as Director and CEO of Swiss Railway Engineering SRE GmbH and, among others, founded the SwissRapide Express project, aimed at implementing the first intercity Maglev line in Europe.
